By Ian Robertson Losing weight is something that typically does not come easy for most. It requires a certain level of discipline and focus that many feel they havent the time for, but since your life is in the balance, I feel ones health should become a priority. Unfortunately, there is no magic elixir or secret exercise that will make you lose fat instantly. It takes hard work. It requires a blend of regular exercise and a nutritious diet in order for optimal success to be achieved. What About Fat And Calories? One pound of fat equals 3500 calories, plain and simple, and since it is never recommended that one loses any more than 2-3 lbs. in a week, it would be reasonable to cut back 500 calories a day. So, cut out the french fries and replace it with something like celery sticks or steamed broccoli. If this is done every day for a week, a pound will be lost, guaranteed. Some trainers actually advise a seriously deconditioned client to work on their diet before hitting the gym. A Diet Myth Exposed The idea that eating more will only add to your fat is a deeply entrenched myth that needs to be clarified. It has actually been clinically proven that eating more meals but of smaller portions keeps your metabolism elevated and thus helps burn more calories than the traditional approach of three large meals a day. Ideally, these meals should be spaced out roughly 3-4 hours apart and should contain a good source of protein and a good source of carbohydrates, such as oatmeal, pasta, potatoes, corn, beans, peas, apples, leafy green vegetables, and firmer, darker breads. Some ideal sources of protein can be found in chicken, turkey, seafood of all types, and lean cuts of beef among other kinds. How Much Should I Eat? To give you an idea on how to exhibit portion control, aim to have your protein be no larger or smaller than a deck of cards, and your side of veggies no bigger than your fist. Aim for 5 meals of this size a day and your diet will be set for success. Oh, and it wouldnt hurt to supplement your diet with a multivitamin, just to ensure complete and proper nutrition. How To Exercise For Mamimum Strength And Weight Loss Make sure that you work intelligently and know that lifting weights requires a certain level of understanding, and in some instances, expertise. So, read up before you run down to the gym for the first time. Weight training is believed to have longer lasting effects on the metabolism than simple aerobic exercise and the harder the better, so I typically indoctrinate my clients in the world of weightlifting from the very beginning. In some clinical trials the subjects resting metabolic rate was still elevated 39 hours after strenuous exercise! Don't Go Overboard With Workouts. When lifting weights, be sure to keep workouts to a 3 day per week maximum, at least for the first 3-4 months or so. This will ensure that the bodys neural pathways have adapted to the new level of exertion and that the connective tissue in the joints have been adequately strengthened before adding a fourth workout day. How To Pick Your Exercises Make sure you pick exercises that utilize the most muscle groups as possible in order to burn the most calories. Many like to choose a pushing exercise, a pulling exercise, a leg exercise , and a core exercise and perform 20-25 repetitions for each movement and make a circuit out of it. This could be done three times total and that would be an excellent workout. Just make sure you choose a weight that you can handle for no more than 20-25 repetitions. This will make it challenging for your body, which will ultimately result in greater fat loss for you. Also, keep workouts to a 45 minute maximum. The body cant handle much more abuse past that point. And once you finish your workout, it should be noted that you have a one hour window of opportunity to eat a meal of ample carbohydrates and moderate protein to make sure you replenish your energy stores and fuel your body for muscle growth, otherwise self-cannibalism on the muscle tissue will ensue and, yes, its as bad as it sounds. You CAN Do It! If you follow these simple rules of fitness, keep your portion sizes under control, and eat plenty of protein, fruits and vegetables, then a newer, trimmer you looms over the horizon. I guarantee it. Ian Robertson is a Certified Personal Trainer and a Certified Advanced Weight Training Specialist, as well as a Certified Nutritionist. How to Help Your Friends Who Experience a Job Loss (or Yourself!)
By Glory Borgeson Do you have friends or family members who have recently
experienced a job loss? Career transition can be a very
trying time. Share these tips with them to make the
experience more palatable: Tips If you're feeling tired, give yourself some grace
(a.k.a. cut yourself some slack) and sleep an extra
1 or 2 hours for the first week or two. The experience
of losing a job can be very draining. Get some extra
rest at the beginning to get your energy levels up. Once you have rested for a week or two, set your alarm
on Monday through Friday for an early hour (as if you
are going to work). Schedule exercise. Preferably, try to fit in some type
of aerobic exercise in the early morning, such as walking,
jogging, swimming, or biking. If you belong to a health
club, try to spend 30 to 45 minutes, 3 days per week,
lifting weights and using the weight machines. Ask someone to review your resume. Do you know someone
who is a writer, such as a technical writer? Do you have
a friend who has a well-written resume? (Who wrote it for
them?) Are there resume writing services in your area?
Definitely get a good "second opinion" on your resume.
I have seen some poorly written resumes in the past few
years! Resumes should be written to show a potential
employer "what they are buying with their money" when they
hire you. What knowledge, skills, and experience are they
"buying"? Use verbs to describe what you did previously,
such as "developed", "managed", and "created". Use the verb
at the beginning of each paragraph, as well as at the
beginning of most sentences. Discuss the outcomes of your
work, such as saving time, saving money, or increasing sales. Get into Networking:
Call people you know (even if you are only acquainted
with them) to ask them to get together with you for coffee
or lunch. When you meet with them, rather than give them
your resume, make your contact with them somewhat informal.
Your goal is to help them become mindful of what you are
looking for and to spur their thoughts as to whom they know
who might be able to help you. (If they ask for your resume,
you can send it to them later.) Consider the companies you would like to work for. As
you call people and meet with them, ask if they know anyone
at those companies. If they do, get their contact's name,
address, and phone number. Send a letter to their contact
requesting an informational meeting to discuss their
company and the industry, noting that you will call them
in about a week. When you call, try to schedule the
informational meeting either over the phone or in person
(some "meet" with you right then on the phone). When talking
to them, do not ask for a job. You only want to discuss the
company, the industry, what they do, etc. (They may ask you
what you are looking for in a position.) Your goal is for them
to become mindful of you and to possibly introduce you to
others. Ask them if they know anyone else in the company whom
you might talk to. If so, get that person's name, title,
phone number, and address; and the networking process of
informational meetings starts all over again. Eventually,
you will be introduced to someone who will conduct an interview.
That is the person to whom you send your resume. (The only
other people to whom you should send your resume are those
who request it.) If you are in the Chicago area, there is a great networking
group for people in career transition that meets for dinner
monthly in Northbrook. Check their website for information
at www.grayhairmanagement.com and click on "Events".
A Few More Ideas I know several people in career transition who have business
cards to hand out at networking events. You can order free
business cards from www.vistaprint.com (you pay for shipping,
which is less than $10). At VistaPrint, you choose a design
from their free cards selection, choose where to put your
text, and they ship you the cards. Most people enter the
minimum information: name, phone number, and e-mail address.
Many people include a title or area of work (i.e. Chief
Financial Officer; Technical Project Manager; Human Resources
Executive), an address, and/or a fax number. The corporate
designs are professional, the cards are made of a normal
weight card stock, and VistaPrint puts their name on the
back of the card in small print. Be careful about spending time with people who are negative
or who say things that cause you to worry or feel fearful
(even if they are well-intentioned). You need positive
influences at this time. Set weekly goals for yourself to:
Make X number of calls to set up a time to meet for coffee or lunch with friends and acquaintances.
Meet with X number of people for coffee or lunch.
Get X number of contacts for informational meetings.
Send X number of letters to request informational meetings.
Make X number of calls to follow-up the informational meeting letters, and to schedule the informational meeting.

Grandparenting: The Pleasures
By Dr. Mona Spiegel Are you a grandparent? Wonderful! Then you are ready to answer the following question: Why are you important to your grandchild? Think a moment and then read on to discover more reasons to feel good. First of all, you have the ability to give your grandchild unconditional love. There is a special connection between the generations based on this love. Parents surely love their children. But they also have other roles to play, e.g. teacher, disciplinarian, and chauffeur, just to name a few. You do not have these numerous pressures. Unless you are babysitting, you dont have to tell the children when to go to sleep, pick up their clothes or brush their teeth. Your relationship has the potential to be one of pure pleasure, not one contaminated by anxiety or frustration. Second, you are the link to the past. You pass on history, traditions, and values. Everything that you do stays with the child and becomes a remembrance that can be passed on further. As Kathy Peel states in her book (Family for Life, NY: McGraw-Hill, 2003, p.220), What we leave in our children is far more important than what we leave to them (my emphasis). Third, you have the capability of being a true friend and confidant; someone who will listen without feeling the need to lecture, someone to share the childs joys and frustrations. Your presence is all that is needed to ease the load of growing up. The more you listen, the more you give. But what if you hear something that concerns you, or that you dont approve of? Are you free to express your opinion? Yes, because just like you would want your friend to be honest, so does your grandchild expect you to be straightforward and truthful. However, as a loving friend, when you do share your opinion, you can do so in the context of that love. Thus you might question the behavior, but not the self-worth of the child. Fourth, if youre fortunate enough to be retired from work, then you also have the special privilege of having the time to listen, which many parents dont. When you give your grandchildren time, youve given them the greatest treasure in the world. It is irreplaceable. Youve given them pieces of yourself that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. To be a grandparent, you dont have to be wealthy. You dont need to give presents. You just need to give attention and love. Lastly, you are the glue that holds the family together. By means of your relationship with each member of the extended family, you inform all of them that they are part of a supportive and loving family network. Now do you know why you are so important? Setting Realistic Goals and Resolutions for Permanent Weight Loss
By Bill Herren Weight loss is a worthy goal and like any thing else in your life that is worth having It takes effort and is achieved one step at a time. Setting goals for weight loss can put you in a positive mindset and if done properly can set you up for success. On the other hand, an overwhelming goal can discourage you or set you up for failure.
Weight loss goals should be part of an overall plan to help you reach your ultimate goal. Let's say your ultimate goal is to lose x number of pounds. Goals that can help you achieve that weight loss milestone might look something like this: Replace my lunchtime cola with water for the next 30 days When visiting public places I will park as far away from the entrance as possible so that I must walk. I will do this for the next 30 days. For the next 30 days I will plan on eating 6 small meals per day For the next four Sundays I will prepare my food for the following week so that I will be prepared and not be tempted to overeat. 30 days is a timeframe picked for two reasons: (1) It is about the time it takes to establish a healthy habit and (2) It is a small enough timeframe that it does not feel impossible to accomplish. These mini-steps (small changes in your diet and lifestyle) will be what ultimately lead you to your weight loss goal. Some weight loss goals that might leave you feeling overwhelmed and/or set you up for failure are: I will never eat ice cream again I will run every day I am not saying these are bad goals, they are just very large and present no plan for getting there and no feelings of victory on the way. Why not say for the next 30 days, my goal is to not eat ice cream? Then after thirty days have a small bite of ice cream. Enjoy it and then reset that goal along with another. That ice cream will be some of the best tasting, most guiltless ice cream you eat in your life. I have a friend that used to call me from time to time and tell me the lofty goals that he had for losing weight. They usually involved a very strict "diet of the month" as well as a very intense exercise program. He had very good intentions and very good motivation at the time of setting these goals, however, we as humans tend to ebb and flow. When his motivation sagged and he "failed" at one of his goals he subconsciously registered that as a failure. Enough "failures" will discourage the best of us and then next thing you know we are back to our old habits Just like my friend. Our society has set us up to be an "instant gratification" society. We want everything now! I believe in using all the tools at your disposal: Nutritional weight loss supplements, exercise equipment, healthy diet plans, and weight loss programs but beware of the company that sells an easy, quick solution and beware of the goals that do the same. Set your weight loss goals in small, easy to achieve increments and rack up successes. Change your eating and lifestyle habits over time and you will see that eating healthy and being healthy is enjoyable. We have spent years developing the destructive, obesity causing habits that we have don't expect to reverse them overnight. Bill Herren is the webmaster for http://www.weightloss-articles.com.

Unconditional Love
By Roschelle Nelson Have you ever had a terrible, terrible day? Work was the pits. The kids got in trouble at school. Your husband is out playing golf again with the guys. You burned dinner and forgot you used your last egg at breakfast. Just when you think you're going to scream....you flop down on the couch and all of a sudden you gaze into the biggest, brightest brown eyes you've ever seen. As she hears you softly call her name, her tail wags feverishly with excitement. It's the one family member you can always count on for support, your dog. These precious members of the family can lift the lowest of spirits simply by offering a paw to shake, a playful tug of war with your shoe string, or just cozying up beside you just to let you know, "Hey, I'm here for you". There's never a moment when "Bebe", our 1 year old Jack-Rat Terrier, isn't elated to see us. She doesn't require expensive gifts. She's definitely not a picky eater. Nevertheless, the love and devotion she exhibits often makes me a bit sad for those who never truly experience a relationship with a pet. Providing your pet with a good home and giving them lots of love and a bit of attention will give you a friend and companion for as long as they live. Their love is unconditional. They don't care about your level of education, your annual income, your outward appearance, or whether or not you lost those last 5lbs. Their love transcends everything and in return they only ask for a stroke on the head, a tickle on the belly,a short occasion stroll around the neighborhood, or a fun game of fetch. For those of you who have experienced a love such as this, be grateful. These adopted family members will enrich your life tremendously. A dog is more than man's best friend - they are some of the best family members I've ever had. Roschelle Nelson is the founder of Wah4life.com. How To Make Your Wedding Theme Princess-Like
By Emily Tanner Feeling every inch the princess on your big day is par for the course these days. In fact, all us girls like to feel like a princess as often as possible, but no day more so than on your wedding day. All those years of dressing up have come into fruition on your big day as your future husband, closest family, friends and other relatives see you as royalty on the big day! Why don't you go to town and make your entire wedding theme like a fairytale? You can then truly nuture the little princess inside all of us girlies! Above all, a fairytale inspired wedding theme must centre on a fairytale. Every stereotypical thought you may have of a princess in a story book or fairytale, is satisfied in this style of wedding theme. Let's start with the dress; it really needs to be princess-like. Of course, it is up to you what style or colour dress you wear as trends, cultures and families differ hugely. You could choose a ball gown shaped dress i.e. with a fitted bodice and full skirt. These look great especially if the skirt is really full with layers and layers of tulle and netting. Alternatively, you may go for a simple fitted silk gown with a long silk train. This type of dress can be made more princess like with the introduction of a small crown or tiara. If you are opting for coloured wedding attire, ensure you are covered with face and hair jewels to complete the Oriental princess look. The same ideas apply to bridesmaids and young female attendants. When it comes to your handsome groom, ensure he is kitted out as your prince. No, he doesnt need to look like he has just walked off a pantomime set, but he does need to look the part. Generally, a light coloured suit would be in keeping with the rest of the theme. However, he may be dressing is bright colours which is fine too as long as he looks very smart and well groomed. After all, princes are always well dressed and terribly alluring Young male attendants are usually more accommodating than older ones when it comes to dressing up for a wedding. Use them as your mini princes, and dress them in length trousers, waistcoats with crisp shirts underneath. They will look sensational next to the mini princesses! As far as flowers are concerned, anything goes as long as they are pretty, plentiful and beautifully scented. Ensure all members of the bridal party have buttonholes, female attendants should carry posies draped in ribbon and table decorations should co-ordinate nicely with everything else. Its becoming more and more common for tables to be scattered with petals so why not do this too? Guests will naturally think of castles, carriages and silver tiaras when they learn of your fairytale themed wedding. What better why to succumb to their [and your] desires than with Happily Ever After Carriage Candles as favours and Happily Ever After Themed Place Card Holders for place settings? Tie in the silver theme with silver organza ribbon tied round napkins and on floral decorations. If you really felt that outdoing all the other princesses in the land is your target, why don't you go for the ultimate trump card? Commission an ice sculptor to create a fantastic fairytale centrepiece for you. There is much scope on this - you could choose a Cinderella slipper or a big ice queen's fairytale coach! You could even have one made in a castle shape if you wanted to! How To File For Social Security Disability Benefits
By John D Roberts The law defines disability as the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment(s) which can be expected to result in death of which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months. This must be shown by medically acceptable clinical and laboratory diagnostic tecnniques. There are two programs administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA). First is the Social Security Disability Insurance Program. This provides a benefit for individuals who are insured under the Act through their contributions to the Social Security trust fund through the Social Security tax on their earnings. In order to be eligible for this benefit you have to have worked at least 20 quarters out of the last 40 quarters (5 of the last 10 years). The second is the Supplemental Security Income Program. This provides payment for individuals who are disabled and have limited income and resources, even if there have been no payments made into the Social Security trust fund. There are three ways to file for these programs. First, you can visit your local Social Security Administration Office. Second, you can file online at www.ssa.gov. Third, you can call the national Social Security toll free number at 800-772-1213. Your file is turned over to an independent group called Disability Determination Services. They will make the determination based on factors including medical records. If they find the claimant disabled, SSA will complete any outstanding non-disability development, compute the benefit amount, and begin paying benefits. If the claimant is found not disabled, the file stays at the SSA in case the claimant files an appeal. Appeals are handled by contacting the same offices above. At this point many choose to hire a Social Security Disability Lawyer. Normally, the attorneys wont charge a fee unless a benefit is won. How Can I Get A Personal Loan
By Joseph Kenny A personal loan is a loan that you can get for any particular reason. You can do with the money whatever you want. Whether you want it to consolidate your debts, buy a new car, fix up the house, or take a trip - that is up to you to decide. Here are some things you need to know about how to get a personal loan. Two Kinds Personal loans come in basically two forms - secured and unsecured. The secured form of a personal loan means, like most loans, that you could lose the item if you do not make the payments. Security is usually in the form of a house, but a car will usually work, too, for a smaller loan. Having security for a loan will usually mean that you can get a larger loan and a much better rate of interest. This is the best kind of personal loan to get. An unsecured loan means that you give nothing in the form of security for the loan. Since it also means a greater risk to the lender, this type of loan usually means higher interest rates, and a shorter time for repayment. What Is Needed In order to qualify for this type of loan you will need a couple of things. The lender is not going to loan money to anybody who walks in off the street. So, besides the usual identification requirements, you will need proof of employment like a recent paystub, and a rather good credit rating - in most cases. Now, however, quite a few lending institutions are giving out money even to people with bad credit. Some, even offer in their advertising to extend credit to those with bad credit - and without a credit check! You can be sure, though, that the interest rates are high, and that this type of loan is probably not in your best interest. Many lending institutions do not offer this type of loan because of the risk involved. Be Sure To Compare When getting your personal loan be sure to take the time to see what a few other companies might offer you. You can do this very easily over the Internet. You will want to compare not only the interest rates and size of the payments, but also any other features the loan may have. Also, be sure that you can pay the personal loan off early, if possible, and have a reduction in interest (some loans do not allow this - such as a payday loan). In order to properly understand what you will be paying, you may want to compare it to a secured loan, too, if you are thinking about getting an unsecured loan and you will see quite a difference. Use It To Better Your Credit Rating A personal loan will effect your credit rating, too. So, if your credit is not in the best of
shape, you can improve your rating by how well you pay off this one. Ideally, you will want to make every payment on time, and for the full amount of the payment. If possible, add a little extra to each one, too, in order to get it paid off early. You Have a Future in Sales
By Ken Lizotte How often have you heard this one (or said it?): I dont like sales, and besides Im no good at it. Most of us have said it, no matter what our industry or profession, steering clear if possible of anything that smacks of sales. We prefer, instead the sweet smell of nearly anything else-- marketing, operations, management, engineering, accounting anything else! Just dont ask me to go out and SELL something. No sir, no way, no thank you, maam. Thats just not me. Well, hold on a minute and take another look, bubba: it darn well BETTER be you! In this Age of Fleeting Permanent Employment, none of us can ever again settle back and forget about our need to sell ourselves. Like it or not, were bound to be out of our present job sooner or later, no matter how great were doing at it. So weve got to keep our selling skills sharp and rarin to go. This includes utilizing such skills in the midst of our employment circumstances as well. Selling ourselves goes on all day, every day, in the modern work world. We must keep selling our value so we wont be canned prematurely. We must keep selling our companys value so shareholders will appreciate it. We must keep selling our products value so our customers dont drift away to the competition. Unlike bygone days, we may no longer take any of these for granted. And to those still kicking and screaming that, Yeah, thats cute, but I really dont have the right personality for it, listen to the words of James Masciarelli, author of the new book PowerSkills: Building Top-Level Relationships for Bottom-Line Results, on the subject: The good news is that hunting (selling), no matter how strongly affected by innate talent or cultural conditioning, can be learned. Some of the most outstanding business leaders have admitted to me that hunting did NOT come naturally to them, that they had to learn it, and that once they did, its value in their professional lives proved enormous. Hunters, including the most successful ones, are by and large made, not born, and this raises hope for us all. Masciarellis comments also relate to high-level performance and achievement in general, which has also been proven, through research, to be something acquired AFTER birth rather than before. The excuse that we are not born this way (or that) is just that, an excuse, nothing more. Simply put, knowing how to sell, whether you employ such skills in a direct manner or not, helps you maintain and advance your career in a big way. And your more causal relationships may be enhanced from knowing how to sell as well, including (some few, lucky folks have discovered) your love life. What to do about it? For starters, stop getting jittery every time someone mentions the word sales. Next sign up for a sales course, or read a how-to-sell book. You could also join a professional association of sales pros, buy some software, attend a sales conference. Somehow, find a way to incorporate selling into your view of yourself. How about hanging out with those salesy wackos down the hall? The main thing is this: dont shy away. The more you familiarize yourself with sales, the less youll demonize it. The more comfortable and then skilled you become at it, the more you will practice it and get even better. Then youll begin noticing measurable improvements in both your career and your personal life which you keep measuring, and keep growing, and which will change your life. Protecting Your Craft Shows Profit - Copyrighting Your Crafts
By Natalie Goyette We're not just talking a knock-off of yours, or even something that is just similar no, this craft is virtually a carbon copy. You don't know if you should say something what if she was making the craft first? Then you would be copying! You can protect your crafts from copyright and trademark infringement and often times it is as simple as making the craft itself. We'll discuss three things you should know about copyrighting and trademarking and maybe even patenting your crafts. A copyright comes with construction Most people don't realize that a copyright comes with the actual creation of something. While you can't copyright knitted sweaters, you can copyright a design or symbol that is on your goods. Where copyrights particularly apply is in the area of intellectual' or artistic crafts. This might be poetry, photography, painting (or most forms of art) and other artsy' media. As soon as your creation is complete, it has a copyright. For further protection, you can register a copyright. Trademarking your unique symbol Trademarking is different from copyrighting in that you are laying your claim to a symbol or design that is particular to your crafts. For example, if you are selling silkscreened T-shirts at the craft show, and you have a symbol to denote that it is one of your shirts, that symbol can be trademarked so that no one can use it. Trademarking protection becomes important if your symbol is very identifiable and people buy the shirts because of the symbol it has on it. Patents for specific designs Patents are different from both copyrighting and trademarking. Patents are usually reserved for specific designs that are not typical anywhere else. For example, let's say you designed a birdfeeder that would automatically fill up when it sensed the weight of a bird on the outside perch. That would be something that you could patent (if it hadn't been patented already). Patents are usually reserved for ideas and new applications; and to get a patent, you need to provide plans, proof that it is an original idea, and a host of other information in order to get it. Generally speaking you will run into crafts and designs that are similar to yours but rarely ever exactly the same. Still, you do want to protect the ideas and the unique value of your crafts, so you may want to take the copyright and trademarking protection to the next level. You can register trademarks and patents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and copyrights can be registered at the US Copyright Office. Natalie Goyette shows you how to make your craft show business profitable in her best selling ebook: Craft Show Success Secrets. Ancient Bible References to Date Palm Trees, Phoenix dactylifera
By Patrick Malcolm Palm trees in ancient desert sands grew and satisfied almost every need the ancient Jews needed. The Jews ate the palm tree dates; the tree juices were fermented into wine; the trunk of the palm tree was used as construction timber; and the palm leaves were woven into baskets, mats, brooms, beds, ropes and made into furniture. Promises were made in the Hebrew Bible by God for a new home for the nation of Israel , and the moving finger on the wall pointed to the palm tree as the perfect supplier of food, shelter and medicine. This was the promised land of milk and honey, (palm dates.) the land of Canaan located on the banks of the Jordan River. Ezekiel 47-12: All kinds of fruit trees will grow along the river banks, the leaves will never turn brown and fall, and there will always be fruit. There will be a new crop every month- without fail! For they are watered by the river flowing from the Temple. The fruit will be for food and the leaves for medicine. Date palm trees grow tall point toward the infinite heavens where there is a promise of Life Eternal. The symbolism of the straight trunk of the palm tree is clear; that humans should journey down the straight path that leads Christians toward righteousness. The straight soft trunk was capped with a canopy of 20 foot leaves of green that unfolded like a botanical star burst. The delicious honey-sweet dates fed the ancient Jewish nomads and the eventual settlers of Israel. The palm leaves shaded the hot, bright desert sands and the fibers provided a plethora of uses in the primitive lands. The ancient date palm tree, it has been suggested, is the oldest fruit bearing tree on earth. Palm trees grow worldwide from sandy deserts to tropical rain forests. The palm trees has been grown in grove plantings, since the ancients understood the food value of the dates and the exotic appearance and shading on the landscape of the desert sands. Palm trees were often planted near an oasis as a source of water, shade and food. Historically the tropical appearance of palm trees was noted in ancient documents, and on stone inscriptions uncovered by archaeological excavations and from multiple references in the Bible Scriptures. Ancient civilizations revered palm trees as symbols of fertility, peace, and victory. Palm tree images were struck and minted on ageless coins of the Greeks and Romans. The trees were an economic resource for the exporting of high quality, edible dates into areas outside the Middle East and Africa. In the Scriptures of the Hebrew Bible, Joshua 6-20, the brother of Moses, Joshua, stood at the miraculous crumbled walls at the city of Jericho, the City of Palms, that was situated in the land of the Canaanites, located along the Mediterranean Coast. All these coastal lands of Phoenecia were the land of the palms where the Philistines lived, the legendary enemies of Israel, which is today named, Beirut, Lebanon, and Phoenicia was abundantly covered with palm trees. So the land of the palm trees was also the land, where in addition the to the productive crops of dates, grape vineyards grew there, and groves of fig trees, olive trees and pomegranate trees thrived. The Greeks were reported to have carved their magnificent fluted columns of marble to memorialize the shape of the trunk of a palm tree. Deuteronomy 34.3: There is the Negeb (desert) and the Jordan Valley; and Jericho, the city of palm trees; and Zoar, the Lord told him. Exodus 15.27 And they come to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there beside the spring. Tamar was the Hebrew name given to palm trees in Genesis and was often used to describe a beautiful woman. Gen 38.6 Judah arranged for him to marry a girl named Tamar. (Palm Tree.) 2 Samuel 13.1 King Davids son, Absalom, had a beautiful sister named Tamar. 2 Samuel 14.27 He, (Absalom), had three sons and one daughter, Tamar, who was a very beautiful girl. Palm trees produced long stout leaves that were used to build temporary tents and shelters at Jewish festivals. Leviticus 23.40, Take boughs of fruit trees laden with fruit, and palm fronds, and the boughs of leafy trees------such as willows that grow by the brooks....and (build shelters with them.). Ezekiel 41.18 the walls were decorated with carvings of cherubim, each with two faces and of palm trees alternating with cherubim. Ezekiel 41.20 One face,....that of a man....looked toward the palm tree on one side, and the other face...that of a young lion....looked toward the palm tree on the other side: and so it was, all around the inner wall of the Temple. Ezekiel 41 25-26 The doors leading into the nave were decorated with cherubim and palm trees, just as on the walls...There were recessed windows and carved palm trees on both sides of the entry hall, the hallways beside the Temple, and on the canopy at the entrance. 1 Kings 6.29 Figures of angels, palm trees, and open flowers were carved on all the walls of both rooms of the Temple and the floor of both rooms was overlaid with gold. The New Testament Scriptures note the spreading of Christianity throughout the lands bordering Israel. These lands were known for their palm trees. Acts 11.19 believers who fled from Jerusalem during the persecution after Stephen's death traveled as far as Phoenicia, land of palms. Acts 15.3 the delegates went on to Jerusalem, stopping along the way in the cities of Phoenicia, the land of the palms. John 12. 12-13 The next day, the news that Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem swept through the city, and a huge crown of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to meet him shouting, 'The Savior! God Bless the King of Israel! Hail to God's Ambassador!' Revelation 7.9 After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from all nations and provinces and languages, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white, with palm branches in their hands. The San Fransisco Chronicle reported, Sunday 12, 2005, that Archaeologist , Ehud Netzer, discovered seed from the date palm, Phoenix dactylifera, from the spectacular palace built by King Herod on top of Mount Masada in Israel. The Romans destroyed the palace after the Jews committed mass suicide on Mount Masada, rather than surrender to the Roman soldiers. Archaeologist Ehud Netzer, found the date palm seed in a cache at the excavation site that presumably had been tossed into a corner after the Mount Masada Jews were cornered. A few seed were treated by Eaine Solowey with the growth hormone Gibberellic acid- widely researched and tested at Yale University in the 1960's, and within five weeks a 2000 year old seed sprouted to form a small tree named the Methuselah Palm. Years before this experiment was done, some Egyptian Pharaoh seed of grain were sprouted but did not survive. Seeds of excavated lotus water lilies, dating back 1200 years ago, have been sprouted from their ancient dormancy to grow into lotus lilies. Date palms grew up to 80ft tall in a river valley 7 miles wide, where ancient Israel had generated a giant economy. The fruit of the date palm was known for its high quality and was exported throughout the Roman empire. The seed were planted on Jan 25, 2005, by a botanist, Eaine Solowey, who was educated at UCLA....Other seed were sent off for radioactive carbon dating to the University of Zrich, Switzerland, and determined to be approximately 2000 years old. This remarkable discovery of Date Palm Seeds, Phoenix dactylifera, that have been confirmed by scientific experts to date approximately 2000 years old led to an unbelievable miracle that resurrected a dormant 2000 year old seed into a living tree...the Date Palm...that symbolized the tree that nurtured the Jews in the promised land of milk and honey, the land of Canaan, that became ancient Israel. Now those ancient seeds of the Date Palm have been resurrected to sprout and grow as Israel did, a land that also lay dormant for 2000 years. Israel has also been Resurrected. Is this mysterious phenomenon and miracle of restoration a metaphor to all people of the world, that Jesus' promise to raise Christians from the dead to be resurrected to eternal life, a revelation that might be understood in this modern day parable of reality? Psalms 92 12-14 But the Godly shall flourish like palm trees, and grow as tall as the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted into the Lord's own garden and are under his personal care. Even in old age they will still produce fruit and be vital and green. The translation of the Scriptures in this article comes from The Living Bible. Get Rid Of Those Toxins And Feel 100% Better
By Ralph Morton TOXINS Have you ever asked yourself this question, why is it today we have more obese people? Up 67% of the population are overweight today. There were a great lot less many years ago. A few, but in no way were they around as they are today, and believe me it will get worse. It will not get any better unless people educate themselves. Unless they know why this is happening, the problem will continue to grow. Think of this; in the 1950s and 60s we never had so many obese people as we have today. In fact, I believe people did not get fat, they just did not like to draw attention to themselves. I guess there were one or two around, however not too many. Dont tell me it was because some of us did not have enough to eat, because even then we had those who were financially comfortable but did look after themselves. Their health and well being was as it should be. We did not see overweight people as we see today. I recall I went to Las Vegas and observed numerous ladies sitting next to slot machines pumping in their quarters These ladies definitely fitted what I refer to as obese. Weight loss for good, is the goal of anyone unhappy with their current size or shape. The information on this web site is aimed at anyone who wants to lose weight and keep it off.
We dont have to tell you, being obese can have serious consequences to your health. These include an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, gallstones, and some forms of cancer. Losing weight can help reduce each of these risks. According to research by the Discovery Health Channel, 50 percent of children do not get enough exercise to develop healthy heart and lung systems. Furthermore, 78 percent have at least one heart disease risk and 20 to 30 percent are already obese. Adults are in even worse shape with 64 percent not getting enough exercise to maintain healthy heart and lung systems, 24 percent never exercise, and more than 45 percent are overweight. Victims of a Toxic Colon Have you ever considered this simple question: Are you clean inside? We shower, brush our teeth and wash our hair on a daily basis, but we tend to ignore cleansing our insides until some form of disease sends us a wake-up call. Believe it or not, our insides, especially the colon which functions as the sewer system of our body, also requires regular cleaning. Constipation, parasites, IBS, gas, bloating, stomach pain, chronic fatigue, digestive problems can all be signs of a toxic colon. Dont be a victim, suffering silently from these painful and often embarrassing health conditions. Find out the truth about colon cleansing and how it can help you. Why Is Colon Cleansing So Crucial? We are all exposed to thousands of toxins and chemicals on a daily basis at work, in the home, through the air we breathe, our food and water supply, and through the use of pharmaceutical drugs. In addition, we are eating more sugar and processed foods than ever before in human history and regularly abuse our bodies with various stimulants and sedatives. "Death Begins in the Colon" These toxins and dead foods lead to poor digestion, constipation, toxic colon build-up, weight gain and low energy. These common symptoms are more than just an inconvenience they can lead to long-term health problems and serious disease. Of all the polite topics of conversation, the state of one's intestines is probably at the bottom of most people's lists. Let's face it: Irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, gas, diverticulitis and colon cancer are simply not things we like to discuss. And yet, as the old expression goes, death begins in the colon. Don't believe it? Ask any coroner. Autopsies often reveal colons that are plugged up to 80 percent with waste material.
Vegetarian Times, March, 1998 Parasites May Rule the World This waste material is home to, in the words of National Geographic,
"a sinister world of monstrous creatures that feed on living flesh: parasites. Discover magazine published a feature article in its August 2000 issue: Every living thing has at least one parasite that lives inside or on it, and many, including humans, have far more. Scientistsare only just beginning to discover exactly how powerful these hidden inhabitants can be, but their research is pointing to a remarkable possibility: Parasites may rule the world. The notion that tiny creatures we've largely taken for granted are such a dominant force is immensely disturbing. We are collections of cells that work together, kept harmonized by chemical signals. If an organism can control those signals an organism like a parasite then it can control us. And therein lies the peculiar and precise horror of parasites. The combination of environmental toxins, an unhealthy diet and parasites poses a grave danger to humans. In fact, parasites have killed more humans than all the wars in history, reported National Geographic in its award-winning documentary, The Body Snatchers. In order to rid ourselves of these toxins it was required someone
came up with a body cleanse which would be able to clean out the

In order to rid ourselves of these toxins it was required someone
came up with a body cleanse which would be able to clean out the
fat particles, and the toxins from the colon, liver, kidneys and lungs,
plus all the other organs. I am happy to say I used John Anderson's
natural cleanse, after I used it I felt 100% better. Hear what the experts are saying. Visit click the web site on the ISAVIDEOS on the left, listen to Dr Becky Natrajan, M.D. for full information why we have to get rid of toxins.

Does Your Lawn Care Company Know About This Deadly Lawn Fungus?
By Keith Fetzner Does Your Lawn Care Company Know About This Deadly Lawn Fungus? If you look out the window, you may see 7 giant, doughnut-shaped patches of brown grass appearing in your lawn. That's what happened to my 80 year old polish neighbor last summer. This man loves his lawn. Every day he is out there watering it, mowing it, trimming, and fertilizing. Overnight, a mysterious fungus destroyed 35% of his lawn. Don't let it happen to you. It is a disease called "Brown Patch," or Rhizoctonia solani. All of the types of grass in your average lawn are susceptible to it. It is one of the most damaging lawn diseases you'll ever experience. The bad news: There is no way to keep Rhizoctonia solani from growing in your lawn. It can come from many different places, and chances are it may be growing in your grass already, at least in small amounts. The good news: Although you may have Rhizoctonia solani in your lawn right now, it only develops into the deadly brown patch disease under certain conditions. Unfortunately, you are probably creating these conditions in your lawn right now. The average homeowner's lawn care methods create a breeding ground for this fungus. 1. One of the biggest lawn care mistakes is overfertilizing. Most fertilizers create high nitrogen levels, which make the grass leaves soft and lush. Brown patch can easily attack these sorts of grass leaves. Applications of more than 4 lb of nitrogen fertilizer per 1000 square feet per year will make your grass susceptible to increased brown patch activity. Also, avoid applying large amounts of fertilizer in the fall or late winter. Certain kinds of fertilizer actually release nitrogen slowly, and can help avoid Brown Patch. Contact us at http://www.naturalwaylawn.com to have us come out and recommend what would be best for your lawn! 2. Do not overwater your lawn (the lawn should not be constantly wet), and do not water your lawn at night or in the afternoon! (It is extremely common for people to water their lawn when they get home from work) Rather, water your grass in the early morning so the water can evaporate under the daytime sun, keeping the grass well watered, but not damp for hours. 3. Prune trees and shrubs to reduce shade and allow air movement and sun penetration. This will help reduce the hours when the grass sits damp and warm. 4. Do not overseed the lawn either. Most homeowners like their grass to be extremely thick, but seeding rates greater than 6 to 8 lb per 1000 square feet for new lawns makes it much easier for the fungus to move from leaf to leaf. Thickly growing grass also increases humidity and wetness periods that invite Brown Patch to grow wildly. 5. Apply fungicides, with the guidance of a lawn care company. There are a number of fungicides that combat Brown Patch. We recommend a lawn care professional do the application of fungicide. Seven Questions to Answer Before you Spend Money on Marketing
By Heather Gallegos Marketing doesnt work. How often have you considered this to be true? If
so, you are not alone in thinking that spending money on print ads just doesnt work
bring you the clients you were expecting. And simply placing advertisements here
and there will never bring you the clients you seek because the act of placing an ad
isnt marketing. Placing an ad is just one of many activities that is often
misunderstood as doing marketing. When you spend your marketing dollars
because you think you should, or because an advertising sales rep calls, you are
doing slot machine marketing as you are gambling on the poor odds of a good
outcome. And changing slot machines to advertise another newspaper or send a
new direct mail postcard doesnt work either. However, by answering seven
simple questions (that Ill get to in the next pages) youll know whether that money
is spent on marketing that will work. But before we get into that, lets make sure we are all familiar with What makes good marketing good? You probably do your marketing to attract new clients. And that is true to a certain
extent, but to be good marketing needs to be built into every aspect of your
business. You may have heard about brand marketing and branding as yet
something else you as a small business owner should be doing. Simply put, brand
marketing is about reserving a spot in your clients mind just for your business.
And this spot is a very special spot as it carries emotions, feelings, memories,
comments from friends and images of your ads, emails, or storefront facade. Some
of these things you have control over, and some you do not. Earning that little
tiny spot is hard. Especially in the age of information overload where we receive
millions of marketing offers a day from marketing activities like: TV, the web,
internet search engines, the radio, billboards, newspapers, magazines and so on.
And hopefully, when you do earn that spot in you clients memory, it is full of
positive associations with your business where they rave about you and come
back again and again instead of spreading bad reviews. Although it is hard to do, it
is done over and over again by small and large businesses that know the key to
good marketing. Consistency is the key. Just like good skincare, marketing requires consistency. Changing cleansers or
products every time your client does skincare has the same disastrous results as
changing your words, images or colors every time you do marketing. You want
your clients to recognize your marketing in a split second and remember all
those wonderful feelings, aromas or results of being in your spa or salon chair.
Being consistent with words (also called messages), images (such as your logo),
and colors (your decor, menu, website, advertisements) is the only way you have a
hope of reserving that spot in your clients mind. While repetition may be boring in
an industry that thrives on creativity, it is absolutely required in marketing your
business. Consistency in your marketing, the delivery of your services, how you
answer the phone, your hours of operationthey all need to be repeated in the same
manner to build on that spot you want to own in your clients mind. Never fear, all
hope for fun and creativity is not lost. You can be creative and consistent at the same time. There are many businesses have creative and consistent marketing activities. You
are probably familiar with a few of them as it is required to create a well-known
brand. Disney does it well everyone knows where to find the happiest place on
earth. Everything Disney does is according to a strict marketing strategy that
has consistent images (Mickey Mouse ears, Cinderellas castle), values (family,
fun) and words (Disney). From Disneyland to Disney Online to Radio Disney to
the Disney Channelevery singe channel of communicating with their customer
has the consistent appearance, words and emotions. Yet, Disneys marketing is
very creative and you can tell they have fun with it. BMW, McDonalds, Apple
and Microsoft are other examples where the marketing executives behind these
brands are very much in control of their marketing messages. Some corporations
even have brand police that approve every brochure, webpage and advertisement
to make sure it is consistent with the marketing plan. I use these corporate brand
examples because most everyone has heard of them, but you dont have to be a
large corporation or even part of a franchise to have marketing that works to attract
and retain clients. In fact, consistent marketing is much easier when there are only
one or two people making the decisions. Marketing that works requires up-front work. Admit it. Creating a marketing plan is usually not on the top of the list when
starting up or revving up your business. Construction, employee hiring, equipment
and product selectionthey usually take a large portion of your attention during
start-up. And the day-to-day details of running a business keep you from working
on that ideal marketing plan now. While many businesses manage this way, the
path to profitability and being 100% booked is made much easier by being able to
answer these 7 questions before you spend any money on marketing activities. 1. Is this activity a part of my brand and marketing plan?
I know this is a tough question to start with since this question assumes you have
one already. If you dont, it is never too late to create a brand and marketing
plan. It isnt a complicated thing, but it does take some thought. A long-term
marketing plan or strategy typically includes defining the words, images,
emotions, and colors that make-up your brand. It also includes a plan of
marketing activities that are regularly, and consistently, spread out through the
year that communicates with current and target clients in the yellow pages, your
e-mails, your website, web search engines, community web searches (e.g.,
CitySearch, Yelp), spa search engines (e.g., SpaFinder), holiday/theme
packages, community newspapers, your answer machine message, your in-spa or
in-salon marketing (menu of services, signs, brochures, client protocols), the
way you or your staff answers the phone, direct mail post cards, radio ads,
community events, educational classes, etc. Beginning with the end in mind is not easy. But youll achieve peace of mind
by having a plan or road map or even a simple calendar of events planned out for
a twelve-month period. You will be able to be less reactive and avoid those last
minute print runs or rushed holiday package planning. Instead, your marketing
activities can be put on autopilot and become a part of your normal operations
even delegated to someone on your staff. 2. Can I measure the results of this marketing?
It is sometimes a challenge, or even impossible, to truly track how much
business you are generating with a marketing activity. Knowing how many
people visit your website is a good example of how you can measure the impact
of a marketing activity that directs people to your website. You may be aware of
it, but there are companies that can set up a temporary website address (URL) or
even a special toll-free number for you to use just once in your marketing
activity (such as in a magazine ad or direct mail postcard). Clients who use
them will land on your normal website or having their phone called answered at
your front-desk without knowing the difference. However, youll be able to
track how many people actually called from that one marketing activity. This is
a much better way to know that the $800 you spent on an ad actually motivated
people to action. Experimenting with different words, promotional offers, colors or images can
now be done AND measured to truly know which works best to attract interest
and generate business. You can measure which local newspaper or magazine is
best in which to continue advertising. Once you are able to measure how big the
response is, your future decisions will be much easier to make about ongoing
marketing spending. 3. Can I afford it? Now, Im not talking about the actual cost of production or
mailing costs. Those costs are important (and Ill get to that in a minute), but I
want you to calculate the cost of any promotional discount. How much profit
do you make on your 20% off coupon? In many day spas, there may not be
enough profit margin to cover a 20% discount. When that is the case, they are
essentially paying clients to visit their business with these types of promotions.
I can hear you asking but dont I have to motivate people to make an
appointment? And of course the answer is yes! But you can do this while
making sure the service you perform is profitable. For example, offer a free
upgrade or add-on to a common service:
Free skin or hair consultation with first service
Free deep conditioning with hair coloring
Free lip or eye treatment with facial
Free brow wax with your high-end facial
Free shoulder massage with mani/pedi
Free foot reflexology with 60 minute massage
Have fun with trying to define add-ons to your services that adds minimal or no
cost and doesnt increase the time on the service. You could even include these
add-ons on your menu with a price so anyone can add them to a service, as these
are great profit boosters. For medical spas, this question may be easier to answer due to higher service
margins. Instead of buy-four-get-one-free packages, consider promotions that
do not greatly impact your profit margins. Consider offering a free skincare kit
with the purchase of a 5 session Botox package. Or a free makeup application
with the purchase of a 3-session Restylane package. Neither have a major (if
any) impact on your bottom line, but provide added perks to your clients. 4. Is this the best way to spend my marketing budget? This is the more common
can I afford it question. As with all investments in your business, you should
consider the return on that marketing investment prior to spending it. To do
that, youll need to calculate how many appointments you need to schedule in
order to payback or breakeven on your marketing spending. To many, this
seems like an easy calculation but it can be tricky. The first step is to take a
closer look at all the costs. Lets take a look at a hypothetical half-page local
magazine/newspaper advertisement. Assume the magazine has 8,000 readers
that are within 15 miles of your business. Costs:
$250 Graphic artist (recommended for a high quality perception of your business)
$1250 Magazine Ad
$1500 Total Cost So how many of the 8,000 readers need to book (and pay for) a service in order
for you to earn back that $1500? This is the second step is to estimate the
average price for all your services. To be conservative well guess an entrylevel
service at $65 is the average price for services booked when clients saw
that ad. The third step is to calculate you profit on that average priced service.
It is easy to skip this step, but the breakeven number of services is not 23 ($1500
divided by $65). You would be forgetting to account for you your overhead and
labor costs. Remember it is the profit in your business that pays back your
investments. So with that in mind, lets assume a simple to calculate 10% profit
margin or $6.50 ($65 x .10) per service. Marketing Payback Calculation:
Total costs divided by average service profit
$1500 $6.50 = 230 services So, it will take 230 $65 services to pay for that magazine ad. That would be
booking one of your employees solid for about six weeks. How many ads do
you know that will book you solid for six weeks? That has to be pretty good ad!
You may be thinking now that with this calculation, youll never pay for
advertising again! While there are exceptions (such as start-up or a really big
event), I generally do not recommend print advertising for this reason. It is
usually impossible to generate enough business from that marketing activity to
pay for the cost. You may still be able to get your business listed or highlighted
in that magazine or newspaper without placing an ad by issuing a press release
or posting on community calendars. (And there are plenty of other ways to
increase awareness without advertising in a newspaper.) Although this example was about an advertisement, all marketing activities
should be measured with this calculation. Try it out with your most recent
marketing activity. You may find that lower cost marketing activities such as
printed and Internet directory listings, e-mails and direct mail postcards usually
make more financial sense for service businesses like yours. 5. Am I attracting my ideal client? Do promotions and discounts attract your
ideal client? If your ideal client sees their health and appearance as a high
priority and has the means and willingness to pay for high-quality results, then
your 20% off coupons and buy one get one free promotions are not attracting
them. However, maybe you are interested in the value-based client that wants
to do it all on a budget. Either way (you do need to choose one) you can attract
them without constantly giving them a portion of your profits when they walk in
the door. You can do this with a focused effort to plan a marketing campaign
that is both interesting, buzz worth and motivating to take action. If you are placing an advertisement in a printed magazine or newspaper, be sure
to ask for readership demographics. Youll want to look for a high number of
subscribers/readers that are 1) located in your local neighborhood (10 15
miles) and 2) fit your ideal client profile. I dont recommend advertising in
larger circulation newspapers that dont have targeted subscribers, as your ad
will be expensive and easily overlooked. Local TV advertising might work if aired during a local community show or a
health/fitness show. But be careful with trading the large exposure off with
targeting your ideal clientespecially if the cost for that one TV advertisement
drains your entire marketing budget. Internet marketing and SEO (search engine optimization) are perfect for targeted
marketing to your ideal client because your website or ad is only displayed when
someone shows interest in what you offer. Google AdWords offers flexible
options and great metrics for pay-for-click advertising. Working with web
marketing specialists to insert keywords and several other techniques to your
website, you can increase the placement of your website in search engine listings
without having to pay-per-click. 6. Do the graphics and/or words speak well of my business and motivate
action?
Whether you do them yourself or use a graphic artist, the words and visual
appeal of your marketing activities have to leave a positive and emotional
impression of your business. This means that you need to double and triple
check spelling and grammar, all graphics need to be of the correct resolution so
they print properly, and it should be easy on the eye and not be cluttered with too
many images or words. Printing a business card ad (a pretty graphic or
picture with your business name/address/phone number) or a list of every single
service you perform do not work to leave an emotional impression.
Additionally, they do not motivate someone to do take an action that results in
increasing your revenue. When creating your marketing activity, focus on what you want someone to do
after they read or listened or watched it. Do you want them to visit your
website? Call for an appointment? Attend a class? Tell a friend? Schedule a
free hair or skin analysis? Whatever it is, make sure that your request and the
benefit they will receive are clearly communicated. A good day spa example is
Book your facial and free personal skin analysis. Or for a salon Refer a friend
and receive a free hydration treatment at your next visit. Or for a medical spa
Attend our upcoming anti-aging class Is it medical fact or marketing fiction? 7. Is this the best way to achieve my marketing goal? If you find yourself still
very tempted to spend your money on an activity that doesnt look like you can
afford it, or doesnt exactly fit your plan, isnt measurable or target your ideal
client. ask yourself if this is this truly the best way to achieve your marketing
goal? Hopefully you have defined your marketing goal, but perhaps not (you
certainly arent alone if this is the case). The most common marketing goals are to attract new customers or to simply be
busier. While these are valid goals, you may want to consider this truth..
it takes dollars to earn new customers and pennies to keep them.
Perhaps focusing your marketing efforts might be better spent on your existing
clients through professional newsletters, client appreciation events (which can
double as buzz generators for new customers) or staff training on building client
relationships? Other marketing goals might be to simply increase awareness for your business
(most common for new businesses) or to attract a new type of client for a
recently added service. Regardless of the marketing goal itself, it needs 1) some sort to number to
measure it with (number of clients, increased sales, percentage of capacity, etc.);
and 2) to be a realistic number that can be reached using your planned marketing
activities. If not, consider lowering the goal or adjusting your marketing plan.
Im sure you figured out that the correct answer to all these questions is yes. If
for whatever reason you arent able to answer yes to all of them, proceed with
caution. Be very very clear with yourself about what you expect in return for
spending that money. Are you looking for the nice, but non-measurable
awareness? Are you bending to the pressure of guilt for not doing anything for a
while? Are you just not sure of where or how to start marketing? When in doubt,
dont allow a sales person to talk you into where and when you should market your
business. Finally, no-cost marketing activities should always be considered in your marketing
plan. Simple touches like a check-in call to your client two days after a service to
answer client questions will go a long way to increase customer loyalty and return
visits. Role playing with your staff about new customer service techniques and
product knowledge encourages free marketing of your existing products and
services to clients you have already frequenting your business. Having a solid marketing plan and being consistent are the foundations for good
marketing. Combined with these seven key questions to answer before you spend

even delegated to someone on your staff.
Regardless of the marketing goal itself, it needs 1) some sort to number to
measure it with (number of clients, increased sales, percentage of capacity, etc.);
and 2) to be a realistic number that can be reached using your planned marketing
Having a solid marketing plan and being consistent are the foundations for good
marketing. Combined with these seven key questions to answer before you spend
money on a marketing activity, you can stop doing marketing that doesnt work
and start having your marketing work for you! Heather Gallegos spent 12 years in marketing, communications and

Arizona DUI Proceedings
By Peter Emerson Like most other court proceedings, the Arizona DUI proceedings are complex and depend on a lot of variables. The most important and one that often decides the fate of the case is whether the DUI has been registered as a misdemeanour or a felony. A misdemeanour carries less sentence or fine than a felony. The DUI proceedings in Arizona do not always follow one line of process. Before a criminal court case is initiated, an accused has to go through an MVD hearing session. This hearing has a direct bearing on the right of the person to drive in Arizona. This, should, therefore, take an equal priority. There are also deadlines imposed by the court on the hearings. An accused should be aware of this deadline, for failure to request a hearing before this said deadline, makes the defendant lose the right to the hearing. The first step in the DUI criminal court proceedings is the appearance before the judge. This initiates the case and the presence of the accused is not required unless he or she has been charged DUI felony. In this first appearance, the charges against an accused are read. The extent of the charges decides whether one goes for a bail application or an appearance bond. There is a preliminary hearing held after this, unless of course, an indictment has happened. The judge, in this hearing, decides the causes and evidence present and whether that was enough to press DUI charges against the accused. What can go wrong here is the pressing of additional charges, which may require the judge to order the accused back into custody. The step after this is the arraignment ordering the accused to be present at the Superior Court. This usually happens only in cases of aggravated DUI charges in Arizona. Here the accused is informed of the charges and given a chance to answer them. Next is a pre-trial conference, where the attorney of the accused is allowed to negotiate a plea with the prosecuting attorney. This is also the time for the issuance of the pre-trial motions. After these, the actual DUI criminal trial is initiated. How the case is fought by both the attorneys will determine the sentence given to the accused. This could range from a simple and small jail sentence, to a prison term, unsupervised probation or even a formal probation. The sentence may also end up including a combination of the said punishments. The defendants' attorney has the chance to negotiate some alternative programs, instead of a jail or prison sentence. This can include electronic home monitoring, treatment, weekend work or even counselling. Introduction to Aquaponics
By Kirk Gordon Hydroponics and aquaponics are very similar in every way except hydroponics requires the addition of fertilizer and theres no fish in the nutrient solution. In aquaponics, plants and fish live a symbiotic life with the fish feeding the plants, and the plants cleaning and filtering the fishs environment. The fish waste becomes the plants food source, consequently, the plants roots filter the water and keep the tank clean. In essence, aquaponics could be considered a miniature ecosystem because both plants and fish are thriving in the same environment. Aquaponics offer benefits to both Gardeners and Fish Farmers. Fish Farmers may utilize aquaponics if they have difficulty disposing the nutrient rich fish water, while hydroponics growers benefit from having a constant supply of free plant food eliminating the need to purchase commercial fertilizers. Unlike hydroponics or aeroponics, aquaponics is still a relatively new cultivation technique. As more technology is developed and the process is refined, it could potentially become a space and money saving process for producing fish, vegetables and herbs. In hydroponics and aeroponics applications, the nutrient solution needs to be prepared measured, mixed, and then added to the reservoir. In aquaponics, theres no mixing fertilizer involved, making it a great way for beginners to cultivate plants. Only the fish needs to be fed. The number of commercial applications utilizing aeroponics is still very limited. A number of universities globally are currently exploring the science of aquaponics to advance this extreme cultivation technique. Aquaponics is currently being used in areas where the fish population is declining and/or their food supply must be imported. Travel Advertising Tracking Makes Money and Saves You Lots of Pain
By Tim Warren FACT Most tourism destinations and companies spend lots of hard earned money on advertising and promotion to get clients to visit or take their trips, but rarely know what was effective. Or worse, what was a total loss. This can be frustrating and potentially fatal if you don't get the results you need. "The most important measure is financial return," stated Eric Grothwoll, former marketing director for successful multi-sport adventure company OARS. Eric generally receives better than 3 to 1 return on their promotional investment. "All promotions work in conjunction with each other. I am always looking at what's working and what's not." John Willard, president of Wilderness Expeditions agrees, "Tracking advertising saves money." John found that by monitoring their advertising and promotions monthly and making changes as necessary; his advertising and promotions was far more effective without spending more money. E-Marketing - The Most Trackable Marketing Savvy businesses effectively use staff and technology to capture useful information about their prospects who visit their website. "It's important to have log reports that are detailed and give you good marketing information. This is something you should insist on from your Internet service provider", Laurel King of Adventure Sports Online stated. The software they use is called Web trends and tracks the top ten URL's used to access your site, top key words used, pages most often hit, average time stayed, etc. Tourism marketing with the internet (E-marketing) is one of the best strategies to track exactly what key word phrases are getting traffic and what ads yield the best return on investment. Google AdWords allows you rotate two different ads for the same group of key word phrases. What this means is the market will tell you, based on your click through rate (CTR) what offer has the highest response, i.e. demand. It gets even better. Google, unlike Yahoo Overture, Google will even LOWER your cost per click (CPC) for your ads with higher CTR. More web traffic for less money. Plus Google has free conversion tracking to determine your return on investment for e-newsletter sign-ups, brochure requests and reservations. Go here for more information on Google AdWords travel advertising and an audio seminar on his subject I recommend. A Word of Caution Google does have some subtle nuances that if not done right, will cost you a bunch of money with little return. But with a little guidance and some tips, you can out market your competition easily. According to Dan Austin, Co-Director of Austin-Lehman, The source of the inquiry is the most important. How did they hear about us?" Every lead, whether it's from the phone, internet, in-house mailing or from a trade show gets a "source code" on their computer. These source codes allow you to run reports about your prospects. Additional important monitoring methods include the clients geographic area, are they a repeat guest, when they want to travel, what offer they responded to, who were they refereed by, etc. It's important to remember that profitable advertising and promotion is a blend of what your offer looks like and communicates as well as where it is placed. Often clients run an ad that their friend designed, for only an issue or two to "try it out". Because they may not have gotten immediate response, advertisers often blame the medium. It may be the ad was not compelling, lacked a good offer, placed in the wrong media or all the above. Travel Advertising Tips: Re-assess quarterly with print and weekly on Google Adwords to make sure your advertising money is working for you. Use your website log report to determine your source of visitors, path of traffic on your site. If your log reports show that most prospects are leaving after less then 1 minute your website needs major work to enhance retention which will lead to more sales. Your success is gauged by cost effectively converting prospects into paying clients. Prospects do not pay the bills, only sales. Converting Prospect Into Sales What experience are prospects and clients having of your company when they want to reach you? Staff are your number your gateway to sales or a waste of your travel advertising investments. I liked what Eric at OARS said, "Marketing makes the phone ring. Staff really makes the difference in converting them into a sale". Your staff should be knowledgeable on all the products or services you offer. If your staff is sold on the company, they will transfer their enthusiasm to the client. Follow-Up Make a commitment to process literature requests and get questions answered on a timely basis. Establishing rapport and credibility with your prospect is key. Persistence Your prospect should have your company or destination name at the top of their mental list. Postcards, brochures, newsletters, E-mail newsletters, testimonials, display ads, yellow pages, association, etc. can all perform well if there is continuity in the message and you are persistent. Travel Advertising Tip: Remember to ask on your outgoing answering machine message, questionnaires, etc. how people found out about your company.
